Fairly interesting concept with funny quirks that may set it apart from the pack. Probably my PC, but it is somewhat laggy. Also, the controls seem a bit confusing, and this is another game that induces that "Guitar Hero" effect where you look away and everything's all WOOBLYWOBBLYWIBBLYDOOBLY.

I really like the addition of weapons, %100 custom controls, and difficulty settings. These things make the game much more accessible for just about anyone.

out of 10...

gfx - 8.5 (good sprites, somewhat disorienting however)
sfx - N/A (I have no soundcard)
design - 9.5 (fantastic levels with classic RPG feel)
gameplay - 9.5 (challenging and also stimulating)

overall, a great game that really feels quite fluid. Favorited.

TheKrimsonKrusader responds:

Thanks for the review, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the game

Looks like my last review got deleted, which is fair because it's wasn't really a review.

Anyway, you might think this is funny, but it's actually sort of baby-ish and a waste of both your time and mine. Please try to invest yourself more into what you're doing in the future.

out of 10...

gfx - 0 (nothing here but a font)
sfx - 0 (no sounds, no music)
design - 0 (obnoxious and baby-ish)
gameplay - 0 (there is no game here)

overall, this is a waste of your time and mine. Please invest yourself more into what you're doing in the future. Also, you suck...get a life.

CebuLips9 responds:

Baby-ish? What? lololololol
i just posted this as a joke with my friends to see how fast it would get blammed
somehow it didn't.
keeping it up anyways because the raging people are amusing.

Another game that stands on the shoulders of giant in the interest of producing fun games that are also profitable. What can I say? It's a solid game, with good balances and a fairly unique battle system (except for...what is it called...pocket creatures, on kongregate?).
Anyway, good graphics, blahblahblah. will probably get frontpage.

Again, though, it's standing on the shoulders of giants that thought of these concepts 20 years.

out of 10...

gfx - 10 (excellent effects, adorable creatures)
sfx - 9 (good score, polite sound effects)
design - 8 (solid enough, but lifts a lot from other games)
gameplay - 9 (pretty fun, no denying it)

overall, this is a VERY good game. It's not great because it basically does everything we've seen in the past, but with a fresh coat of paint. I don't mean to rip on your game, or the hard work you put into it, but honestly I have been thinking more and more about ingenuity in games...and this definitely doesn't break any records for that.

artlogicgames responds:

Really appreciate your honest review. Thanks

I played until I got to the self-depreciating level where you said you suck at programming. I was kinda like "well, if that's the way you feel then fuck it!"

out of 10...
gfx - 4 (bland, basic shapes without any effects)
sfx - N/A (I have no soundcard)
design - 6 (not bad, just too frustrating)
gameplay - 2 (relies on twitch-mechanics instead of logic or even physics)

overall, this game has some shining points. Maintaining a monologue with the player is one of them. However, due things like a TERRIBLE FRAMERATE and A TERRIBLE FRAMERATE and a TERRIBLE FRAMERATE.....this game will probably not do so hot and go largely unnoticed.

SilverSnakeCake responds:

Ok look. Me and my friend literally JUST started programming like, 5 days ago... and this is our very first game EVER. But, we will make more updates with epic stuff added. The music is just an 8-bit soundtrack made by my friend. The laggy framerate MIGHT be your flash player or computer, because me and my friend have no problem with the framerate when we play. Anyway, thanks for rating and if you keep looking for updates, this might have awesome features and more levels added.

First, no preloader...makes you lose like half your ratings, views, and reviews. Would have been cooler if there was some balance in the combat, but there really isn't! Big enemies hurt you lots, no avoiding it. Very gory, which is pretty cool for this type of game. Also, WASD doesn't work. It's the arrows....bomb is sort of useful....sort of...and what's up with the super-blurry background?

out of 10...

gfx - 7 (ripped sprites, but cool blood fx)
sfx - 3 (dull song, poor sfx quality)
design - 4 (not much here, poor balances)
gameplay - 5 (weak attacks, not much room to move)

overall, this really needs some more work. I think it'll pass judgement...but not with a high score. But it could! Just work on some things...

badtrip712 responds:

Thank you for your review!

I made this game about a year ago in 2 days. i've always seen it as a proof of concept for a full game.

Cool game, didn't expect this from the title. I love the music, and I really like the concept. I didn't like that there was a limit to what the player could do, really. No upgrades made this a somewhat frustrating experience, in spite of the fun level (which is very high)

out of 10...
gfx - 8.5 (they might like LOOK great, but they feel great)
sfx - 9.0 (killer tune, fun sfx, could have used more crashing sounds)
design - 9 (awesome action/platformer/puzzle blend)
gameplay - 8 (no upgrades, but solid controls and radical pacing)

overall, this may turn out to be a largely overlooked gem but a gem it certainly is...even if you DON'T make a sequel. Which you really should. The combo of different genres mixed with ease of play and a manic sort of multi-tasking stimulates and engages the player in a way that many games fail to.

FenrisWulf responds:

So glad you like it! I actually did add a few unlockables under the options section. Perhaps I should've renamed that, as people seem to not notice it.

Thanks so much for the review. It really means a lot to me!

Really interesting cannon physics! I like the ways in which Mario can interact with the world using his bazooka. This is an extremely difficult game, as most cannon games are. However, this one gives the player a serious edge by allowing them to gauge the strength of their shots by using a color-coded meter. A visual to help approximate the angle would have been very helpful as well. Whimsical music and sfx.

out of 10...

gfx - 7 (everything mostly fits together well)
sfx - 8 (good song, but maybe more amped up?)
design - 8.5 (great mechanics, awesome world map)
gameplay - 9.5 (very fun, very challenging)

overall, a great game that's good for at least an hour's worth of entertainment. Also, for some reason, it really cheers me up. Definitely see the improvement over the original in many ways. Looking forward to your next game!

xmorpher responds:

Thanks for your review! :)
I'm glad you liked it. We wanted to make it more challenging than the previous game, but maybe we should have used a couple of easy levels first since the learning curve was a little high if you didn't played the last game...
We're working in the third (and final) part right now and we're adding some easy/tutorial levels first to keep entertained the casual player

Question: why does the game take so long to load in spite of it being only 266kb? Must be a lot of external stuff to pull. Oh, well.
I think that this is an interesting blend of RPG/tower-defense with some shooter elements. However, it seems rusty in some way. Obviously inspired in some part by Fallout, I wish there was more focus on the player and their missions.

out of 10...
gfx - 8.5 (interesting renders, but somewhat dull by today's standards)
sfx - 0 (why aren't there any sounds?!)
design - 6 (somewhat cramped layout, grid interface makes for ugly maps)
gameplay - 5 (movement is wonky, too many tutorials)

overall, this could be a great game. It's pretty good for what it is, but it could be great. lacks elements of detail, aesthetics, and overall presentation could be much more interesting. I would like if this were multiplayer as well, but that may be a ways off as it seems like there's a lot more to work out here.

Great for a v1.0.

immo87 responds:

Hello, this game has about 7MB. 266KB is size of the preloader. Maybe I should find faster server somewhere in 'your' part of the world to make it faster.
This is my first game, and I am pure amateur which wanted to learn to write algorithms during my summer school holidays. So i decided to focus on gameplay code, not graphics that really needs big improvement. Btw there are sounds! Not all that I want but there are some. What explorer have you used? Thanks for response, I really appreciate it.

Got up to level 6, and I really like the design here. The idea to plot out the snake's moves as though it were almost a puzle-strategy game is very cool. I think this really ups the ante for reboots of old games. I can see this being incredibly popular on Android.

out of 10...
gfx - 8.5 (clean, polished, but may need an increased framerate)
sfx - 9.5 (music feels intellectual and sfx are very clean)
design - 10 (perfect design, good combo of strategy/action/puzzle)
gameplay - 9 (a breeze to learn, challenging to master)

overall, this is a real breath of fresh air in the world of retro-reboots. I didn't play the game it was inspired by, so I don't know how much is lifted from that. I don't care, though, because this is a very intuitive game with simple mechanics and theory working together to create something we haven't seen yet. Brilliant!

amidos2006 responds:

the other game I am inspired by its graphics almost :) but nothing in gameplay :) thnx for the amazing review :)

Hmm....I dunno, probably just my PC but I can't even play the Slender level without terrible lag. Sorry, but just not enough here to hold my interest for long...the yeti level was probably the best, as the water taxi just ended up getting stuck on EVERYTHING and the Slender level lagged massively. I think this was done in great spirit and you should definitely cheer, however! I like that for the Yeti level, he says "no time to explain" and turns out it was because of an avalanche, haha.
I liked the spooky lighting in Slender, hated the lag and weak music.
Swampthing is the funniest, but I didn't like that the cab stuck to everything.
I liked the gamplay in Yeti, but not the repetitive aspects of it.

out of 10...
gfx - 6.5 (not bad, needs anti-aliasing bad tho)
sfx - 6 (kinda boring background ambiance)
design - 7 (very funny, but lacks 'quality' toggle)
gameplay - 5.5 (things get "stuck", bad lag)

overall, this truly defines the spirit of gamejam and deserves to have won based on that alone. Looking forward to future games!

Seppyb63 responds:

Wow, Thank you for that :D.
Sorry about the issues, the slender level ran fine here, and on any machine we ran it on in tests (even ran fantastic on a mac :D ), it did lag a small bit on some machines(like my laptop), but never too noticeable.
The "getting stuck" issue is usually when a sloped block meets a solid block, and that's a bug we couldn't resolve. We managed to lessen it, but it remained regardless of how many fixes we tried.
Yeti is my favorite too :D, think there might be plans to expand it into a full game on its own, but I'm not too sure really.
