very dull, good graphics, but very dull....
very dull, good graphics, but very dull....
The visuals so smooth, the music is very relaxing, the sounds are easy-going, and the atmosphere is wonderful. I was surprised when this game played like a soft Bionic Commando meets Mini-Golf meets a new kind of puzzler.
it's altogether cute and very easy to play, but still offers a good variety of challenge and a great number of levels.
The control is kinda loose, in fact i have no bearing during the game on which way it's going, if you don't "take your kick" before the ball trundles away a bit then disappears you lose your turn. I'm not sure where the 3D models came from, but they definitely could've used more work to make them uh...prettier, before import, unless this game actually uses Flash's Stage 3D....
i definitely agree with CyberDevil, the crowd is pretty awesome, i like the visual and sounds they create a great atmosphere. I also don't honestly mind that there's no mute button, since this also actually adds to the atmosphere of this short game.
There is no defensive strategy. The keeper is on his own? I appreciate the encouragement to relax at this point in the game, actually the whole game is pretty relaxing....but without any influence whatsoever on defense, i guess for this game the best defense is a good offense.
Overall, it's actually pretty cool. It's like a good song you hear on the radio. You love it, but the core composition may not be the greatest.
feels like cave story
ugh.
well, cookie clicker is definitely a format. i think this was sort of a waste of really great art to produce a dumbed down rpg-themed cookie-clicker....
honestly, this game is incredibly brilliant in that it feels just like some stupid game your Dad would bring home cause it had girls on the cover.
feels like a blurry mishmash demo that got some serious buckling down put it into it...not a...4th game.
Ahaha fair call. Thanks for giving it a go anyway :)
the game has a certain charm, to be sure, but overall leaves me with brainless gameplay.
not a game, more of a "technical demonstration". music's kind of rad, i love the art. but still, there's nothing here, i wish the author had been less excited about uploading this project, but the zeal wins out.
still....i can't really feel ok about reviewing something with no ending, no challenge presented....no title screen....nothing more than:
if(Key.isDown(Key.BLAH)){
this._x-/+=var;
}
and:
if(this.var_HP<=0){
unloadMovie(this);
}
*shrug*
oh, wait, stencyl? oh lordy. i'm not even sure how much original content there is, here.... *leaves*
All true points man, i guess it does fit "demonstration" more than game. Even so i suppose it was more of a way to show competency with the program.
Man, this game is really distilled. It has no frills, and offers only action. the story and settings carry the adventure. i think my only criticism regards Sgt. Dagger's kill animation not being as smooth (in fact it looks like it gets cut off) as that of the enemies. since i saw him die more than any other character, this got kind of annoying for me. But the other animations were so smooth and rad, i just couldn't hold that against this game for long at all.
Other than that, I was going to criticize the fact that this series doesn't change much. when i finished the game, which i haven't done in a long time (beat a game), i realized it was so clean. So action-packed, so awesome! There were so many close shaves and near-misses that I really got excited more than a couple of times.
the final boss was great, and i really loved the area past the cave. the gauntlet of bosses was awesome to play.
Next point, the art is unusual. Yes, it's pixels, but not what i'm used to. the fact that the main character has no face really gives him, er...uh...character!
as a minor point, i loved seeing the credits and a sneak-peek inside the dev. process by including a list of what went into the SDK.
i better get on with this, start wrapping it up, but I want to rave over the AI real quick. i started realizing that the soldiers were GOING FOR COVER, and i think i saw them maneuvering with each other tactically. they were tough, they were cool, they were dead meat.
i also haven't plugged in my headphones for a flash game in a long time.
out of 10....
GFX - 9 (totally rad except choppy death)
SFX - 9 (sounds straight off my old gameboy)
DESIGN - 10 (that's one tight package)
GAMEPLAY - 9 (fantastic, but perhaps ultimately too easy)
in conclusion, after a long day of working real hard, i really appreciate this game. the simplicity, the shortness, and the fun factor make it tops for me. I'm going back to play the others, and i look forward to the series finale! thank you! this made my week!
