Misleading.

The game is really not all-that-epic. In fact, this isn't even a great pacman clone. It's very slow, and the angle is confusing when oriented to the keyboard. Would have liked to see more than a reskinned, slowed-down pacman presented at a weird angle.

gfx -6.5 (clever...sort of)
sfx - N/A (I have no soundcard)
design - 4 (bland, awkward execution)
gameplay 2.5 (sluggish, uninspired, bad controls)

overall, this seems like an idea that flourished before the game was made, and then creativity went out the window as you realized how hard it is cloning Pac-Man. The real problem I have is that the game could be alright, if you fixed that wonky-ass angle and sped up keyboard-reaction time. Otherwise, as it is, it's not a lot of fun...but still a solid effort.

Pretty weird, dude. I like it though! The randomness and use of a handful of prefab gamemaker graphics almost serves as a statement on the practice of making games with things like "games factory".

The fact that the only explaination provided is in the description on the games newgrounds page works to make the game more fun I think. It's like a riddle, and the answer is in figuring out what's going on and how to finish the levels.

gfx - 9 (hilariously random)
sfx - N/A (I have no soundcard)
design - 8.5 (great concept and unique execution)
gameplay - 7.5 (may confuse some, delight others)

overall, I think this is a very creative project that should never be built upon, added to, changed, deleted, or bongo'd in an offensive manner. I beat it, and I like it, but can't wait to see what else you can do.

The learning curve on mastering the cannon may put some players off from this game. It is a little loose in terms of action and must be aimed with almost uncanny precision. This is something you may want to tweak...I don't know.

I really like the way this game looks, has an almost rustic appeal to it. The 18th century thing is very cool, and I like the concept of shooting ideas out of a cannon. Sometimes I think the graphics quality could be better, and the colors may blend together a little TOO well.
To be honest, games where the levels get harder in the way they do here give me a headache. I am not sure many people are going to be into what is essentially an action-puzzle.

gfx - 8 (great charm, could be better rendering quality)
sfx - N/A (I have no sound)
design - 9 (nothing confusing, everything detailed easily)
gameplay - 6.5 (loose cannon controls, little changes in levels)

Tron is my favorite movie of all time, and the only thing better than this was the Discs of Tron machine. This is still pretty cool, though, feels like a little Tron-shrine.

uh, not sure how to review this since it's exactly the game. Let's see....

design - 9 (cool cabinet turnaround, but may anger players who check the filesize)
sfx - 10 (not sure if you recreated them, recorded them, or whatever but awesome)
gameplay - 10 (c'mon, it's the original lightcycle simulator)

joshmorgan responds:

Many thanks! We worked really hard to make this a faithful recreation of the Lightcycle level from the original arcade game, so I love hearing when fans like it!

The CG cabinet turnaround and the SFX where both supplied to me by the guys at Black Powder Media. The 3D cabinet turnaround was created by CG artist Peter Hirschberg, but I don't know where the sounds came from (though I suspect they were recorded straight out of Scott's original TRON arcade cabinet that he's got in his studio along with an original Discs of Tron machine). We played the heck out of those cabinets while studying the game for this version.

Haha, I couldn't figure it all out but still pretty cool. definitely like the panoramic design. good luck in gamejam 8!

gfx - 7 (convincing and eerie)
sfx - 8 (very spooky song)
design - 8 (could have scrolled more quickly)
gameplay - 8 (very challenging)

overall, I think this deserves to win due to spirit.

The game is pretty laggy, maybe you should turn up the framerate. Also, increase Jerry's speed, he is turtle-speed slow! The tongue is an interesting idea...but there is a lot to do for JJ's Quest 2! Good luck!

gfx - 5.5 (decent, conveys ideas well enough)
sfx - 8.5 (pretty funky)
design - 6.5 (every well-explained, just a little slowly)
gameplay - 3.5 (very slow character, jumps often miss enemies)

overall, I think there is great potential here for an amazing adventure platformer, but it's just not ready yet.

m-skara responds:

I feel a bit idiot because I didn't specify it's a demo test, anyway
thanks for your advice, I'll get it better....

Comes kinda close to Kingdom Rush, but I think there is a lack of real original content that we haven't seen before to set it aside. The Funky Forest story is adorable, but I immediately thought "Kingdom Rush" when I started playing. I think the more "itemized" appraoch to tower choices is cool, but the game could also use some background music!

gfx - 9 (solid, cute, and effective)
sfx - 7 (lacks good music!)
design - 8 (great interfaces, good balances)
gameplay - 7.5 (good gameplay, just a little stale)

overall, I think this is an excellent game that is a lot of fun, but doesn't bring much new to the table.

A real treat if you actually have 3-D glasses...which I do! I think it works good once you're eyes adjust. You should have enabled scaling so people can max it out for the full effect.

Sadly, I can't say that I really liked the game itself...sorta clunky controls and I honestly got sort of confused by them. Between that and the low-framerate, I couldn't do it, I'm sorry. Awesome 3D, I think there should be more people making games with 'em. Hell, give 'em away in promotions.
However, I recall once I wore a pair for at least 5 hours on a cartrip and when I took them one eye could only see red and the other only cyan for a good hour or two.....

anyway....out of 10...

gfx - 7.5 (some awesome 3D effects, but drawings maybe lackluster)
sfx - 6 (could have used more than just bubbling and munching sounds)
design - 8 (good use of "anaglyph" 3D)
gameplay - 5 (hard to eat other microbes, controls somewhat unresponsive)

overall, I think this is a quirky game with a cool theme that maybe suffers from clunky controls and I can't wait for more!

Thunder-Hawk responds:

Ha! At least one man with red-cyan glasses :) There could be more anaglyph games if there are more people with the glasses to see them.
As for the controls, it's just not easy to eat somebody while swimming in the 3D space. But if you have extra difficulties, your computer might be either too slow, or too fast. (Tell me plaease what's the case.)

Dude, I'm fail. couldn't make it over first longjump. haha. cool style of game, like the music very much. Tight, almost acrobatic controls are pretty sweet. Very dark feeling to the whole game. Cool cave design.

out of 10...
gfx - 9 (fit perfectly)
sfx 9.5 (smooth and eerie)
design - 9 (straightforward instructions)
gameplay (tight controls)

overall, I think this is a really cool game because it gives you a good eerie feeling. I got kind of excited trying to make the first longjump (which i failed). Game may be extremely difficult is the only downside I see.
