hahaha, i had fun just listening to all of these for a second. very clever with the "delete" button, yes yes...but the...hmmm....FACT THAT THERE'S NO VAN FREAKIN' HALEN made me sad....i like that you did he names by key-letter....as for Z....SHAME ON YOU! What the f*ck about ZZ Top?!

PhantomCat responds:

If you wanted to sing Van Halen songs with Van Halen, you could just listen to a VH album. DUH. I'm providing a NEW service here.

Also, crap, you're right. Still, I don't feel as bad about that as having to include XTC in anything ever at any point of my life, but I can't think of another X even now.

really a very cool IDEA to combine falling blocks with platforming, but it's really easy to get stuck or trapped. Very simple game, also, without much regard to detail....

out of 10...
gfx - 7 (clear but not much harmony)
sfx - N/A (i have no soundcard)
design - 5 (more care should have been taken)
gameplay - 5 (suffers from basic design flaws)

overall, this is a decent game that may engage folks for a bit, but quickly disinterest them out of frustration.

wasn't willing to stick around for the THREE loading bars, the last of which started to take forever....

nice blood, man, but i would recommend adding a player character if your bad-dudes are shooting to the right or you end up with something sort of confusing. cool effect how the bullet-hole fades, tho.

ah....just so you know...."futa" is also a nerd's way of saying "hermaphrodite"

didn't play the game...but just thought you should know that....haha

an extremely laggy game....I quit when the "world map" menu wouldn't let me change to any other tabs. lost interest very quickly, disappointed...no review.

Victory responds:

It's a high quality game. Play it on low quality if you experience lag.

wow. way to not only insult your audience but also (intentionally) waste our time AND prove that you can certainly copy-paste from tutorials. triple-whammy of trolling ftw

i wanted to writethis review before the game gets jam-crammed full of them. I will admit that while the options for doing up your Raybot are extensive, they seem to be lacking on the Human side...making for generic humans with no variety in weapons or looks.

HOWEVER, my favorite part of this game was the presentation and overall atmosphere in addition to the level to which you CAN customize the Raybots. I mean, that voice was perfect!!!

I think my biggest complaint is just having to go back and forth between the mouse and keyboard.
Also, somewhat disheartened that there weren't many options to customize your human and they can't shoot up or diagonally... however, this is a moot point as it seems like the Human/Raybot modes were tied together extremely well.

out of 10...

gfx - 10 (sets killer atmosphere, psyches you up)
sfx - 9 (awsome sfx and voicing, but songs get repeatitive)
design - 9.5 (overall impressive, but maybe lacking more features)
gameplay - 9.5 (a lot of fun, good controls, many choices)

overall, a killer game that showcases what Newgrounds can do. Awesome sense of doom the whole way, and fast-paced gameplay that runs well even on my 512kb of RAM...I think I will be playing Cathode Raybots for a long, long time!

TomFulp responds:

Thanks! I should consider adding keyboard controls to get through the human menus... For the Raybot menu it's pretty much inevitable that you need to use the mouse.

Multidirectional shooter was considered but the focus was more on the classic restraints - when you can only shoot left or right you have to make specific decisions while fighting the boss and there are less opportunities to just get under or over them in a safe place.

not really gonna review this, since it's just a test, but I guess it goes to show what you can do with such very little programming. i believe this is currently top 10 for RPG's here on NG.
