what beautiful mutants....wait, what?! hash-tags actually work here on NG? no way.

ZabuJard responds:

haha hash tags dont work theyre just fun and thanks for all your reviews man i appreciate it :)

jeez, plenty of negative nancies! i'm not sure, but i think that this represents a reasonable level of skill that most folks could at least FEEL like they can reach (even if they can't)....maybe it was featured for something along those lines.

but to be critical, i've got to admit...jesus, dude, that is one ugly lady!

regardless, it's pretty obvious the author has been drawing like crazy. not that anyone below (except two or three) cares about the author much at all. i mean, all you have to do is click on their next-oldest submission to see that.

i'm kind of sad, that zabujard has never been featured (to my knowledge) after working really really really hard at his thing...but this is a relatively obscure author...and while a lot of this piece is fairly strong, take a look at that nyan-cat...yowza, that's smooth.

but a lot of it just....well, the author is proud of it and deserves to be. 3 stars is still "not bad, i like it" right?

wowsers, reminds me of the old drawings i used to see in 80's D&D monster manuals...which were the reason i starting loving art.

maybe less greeble around the crotch? *shrug*

LuxiferxLegion responds:

Hm?

i dunno, man, i'd still keep an eye on your anatomy. it's really just the proportions. shapes are bitchin, tho...but looking again i'm kinda thinking i see every part of him is to a different scale, haha.

check that hair, too....but this is great, though. the tones are mostly rad, i especially love it around the left foot towards the heel. i think the weakest one is on the left leg, while the right works the same technique doesn't convince me of the left. the strongest linework is the inside of his cuff below the left arm, if'n you ask me, and definitely the organic parts also.

i think the cast-shadow is kind of awkward, but i know i f*ck those up alot. as in, almost every time, or they just come out blahhh....

i think the color balance is good, and i really like this one overall. is it an original character, or is that from a television program or something?

LurkinPanda responds:

Thanks. Over the last two months I have been working on anatomy so I expected to mess up quite a bit. Linework is a bit hard for me at the moment as I still use a 5 year old Bamboo Pen and Touch That is becoming more and more useless. So I have to pet my lines a lot to get them looking somewhat smooth and clean. I tried using the scratchy look on the inside lines and worried on thickening the outside. Mostly this was to test out how far I've come in my studies regarding body shapes, lighting, and using SAI as a main program again. I think I'll use photoshop as my main program though after this. Once again thanks for the review I will work on these tips. Also the character is not mine, he is a main character in an Anime called Samurai Champloo. The art style on the show is great and usually this character has a much wider body thickness and very skinny limbs but I wasn't trying to copy the creator's style.

well, i think you emphasized subject over form. i don't really think a reproduction of a picture counts...still looks good, though. is this one of the first times you broke out with painting, rather than just filling line-drawings? whatever the case, i like the overall render....also the font is really catchy.

LurkinPanda responds:

Yes this is one of the few times I have not used lineart when painting.

i love how cheery the reporter is, i think the teeth lock it in. love sweaty arm, this character is so bizarre. I'm really trying to wrap my head around this whole story....and will this be eventually a comic to buy bound-book style?

lol, this one looks inspired. it ALMOST tells a story, and definitely comes really close to conveying a certain emotion or feeling but i think it still misses the mark. a stronger sense of "where" would have been amazing. but the characters tones are clear, and the guardian angel itself is probably the best painted portrait i've seen you do so far.

haha, looks more like chucky!

hey, these came out great!

did you know: our galaxy is on a collision course with the most-nearby galaxy, Andromeda. In aprox. 6 bil. years, there will be no trace of our Milky Way! A new galaxy will form, and in the hundreds of millions of years leading up to the event, if you were on Earth, you would see Andromeda in the sky....all the time, like a giant creepy Armageddon-bringin' moon....but scarier! that is, you WOULD see it if the sun hadn't roasted the Earth to a crisp about 1 bil. years prior.

i hope that doesn't bring you down, but if you didn't know...i personally found it enlightening.
