I played this using Joy2Key and a PS2 Dualshock controller plugged into a USB adapter, and I have to say it is....THE MOST FUN I'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME.

I was playing like...Super Meat Boy, before this...and it doesn't even have the same level of quality as Ripple Dot Zero, to be honest. Everything here is so smooth and seamless. Fantastic backgrounds, and I love the way the opening credits appear. And to say the least, I wasn't expecting such an interesting main character (BATTLE PENGUIN?!?!).

I will say I had some minor confusion regarding the camera, but that's alright. I got over it.

The music fits so perfectly, and does its job well to get the player pumped.

I could go on, but I have only played the first level so far. It is like a fantastic blend of Megaman with hints of Ristar and of course Sonic.

out of 10...

GFX - 10 (beautiful sets, characters, and color)
SFX - 10 (Incredible soundtrack cements 90's feeling)
DESIGN - 10 (levels are filled out and keys can be rebound)
GAMEPLAY - 9.0 (minor camera troubles makes things hectic)

Overall, this is just like playing a Genesis classic. It is friendly for all ages, and really sets a new standard in what we have come to expect from Flash platformers. Playing with a playstation controller and joy2key as I did, the fun level was through the roof.

Definitely going to return to this one and would recommend to everyone.

THUMBS WAY UP!

horrible!

i don't know why i still write reviews for this kind of thing. first off.....nobody wants to visit your ugly facebook. second, to call this a "beta" is sort of a joke. I could whip this up in an afternooon.

third...awful graphics....fourth: there is nothing original here.

Finally....aw forget it, the author is probably a pre-teen.

sorry im learning AS3.... sorry im 10 ... you gonna make me cry

this is really useless to us. If you used it as a tool for building levels in your own games, this would be awesome and I'd be impressed.

as it is, why the hell do we even care? do something with this.

very worthwhile of everyones attention.

While it borders on broken, I still had a lot of fun playing this. I enjoyed the lazy art style and this game has enough quirks to entertain for a few. Level "aaa" I quit because I kept falling through the floor. Still, I like the way Steve sort of slides around.

GFX - 6 (lazy, but cool style)
SFX - N/A (i have no soundcard)
DESIGN - 7 (good feature set)
GAMEPLAY - 8 (fun for a few)

Overall, the game is broken. But it's still interesting and fun for awhile, broken or not.

THUMBS UP!

It's pretty cool, but slow-paced.

I don't think the stick-man enemies gel with the other assets...pretty decent FX, though.

level generation is pretty tight, and there are some interesting variation in obstacles. granted, there don't seem to be many of them, but they work alright.

i opted to play without sound, sorry. nothing against the game, but i just usually prefer to test without it. usually the volume is really loud, with cheap SFX...and there is rarely a seperate option to mute only the music or SFX, much less a slider. Here I unmuted for a second, hear a cheap Synth kick in and muted again.

physics are almost non-present. The helicopter eases through changes in direction, but this effect is sort of clunky in this instance. Would have liked consistency in upgrades, as in getting to decide when each is used. Being able to stack them in a queue would have been a nice touch, as well.

pacing is very slow, would have liked a gradual increase in how quickly you ascend the tower. this provides a great incentive as the player progresses.

additionally, there aren't hi-score tables so a hi-score is sort of a moot point here, which is most of the reward for playing anyway.

Had to play on low-quality with my 0.5 Ghz CPU, 0.5 GB RAM, and 500MB Video Card. I think this is a problem for a game that doesn't feature rich graphics or particularly deep math.

out of 10....

GFX - 6 (workable, but inconsistent)
SFX - N/A (did not review)
DESIGN - 6 (interesting concepts, but not pursued...little variation)
GAMEPLAY - 4 (Slow-pace, controls clunky, no hi-score)

Overall, I think the Author may have been a touch hasty in releasing this. Many features could have been improved upon in a fairly short time. There are interesting ideas, and the sparks of a great arcade Title are here. I would be thrilled to play a sequel.

Regardless of the short-comings, I still give this game...

THUMBS UP!

EggysGames responds:

Thanks for the greatly detailed review. It does suck it needed to be played on low quality on your computer.

Ask yourself something: in what way is this fun? Yes, it features non-animated DOOM characters, and yes it includes most of the features of Space Invaders....but the fact remains that it's uglier and more boring than even old 80's Space Invaders.

And if you say that you did this to learn something, I'm gonna SMACK you. Games Factory teaches you almost nothing practical.

out of 10...

GFX - 3 (uninteresting use of trademarked characters)
SFX - N/A (i have no soundcard)
DESIGN - 4 (missing features, does nothing new)
GAMEPLAY - 3 (awful pacing with no challenge)

Overall, I shouldn't review this game. I just waded through every submission under judgement, most of which are awful, and yours happened to be the one that really set me off. Sorry for that.

I recommend the Author picks up Flash, and does something interesting with his interest in game design.

very cute graphics, but i did not play long because it's too easy to get stuck.

broken, so THUMBS DOWN!

needs preloader, baaad
